On July 24 th, the Federal Government is completing a 3 phase increase of minimum wage over three years that amounts to a 29% increase. According to LaborLawCenter.com, in May of 2007, Congress approved the Federal Minimum Wage increase and former President Bush signed it into law. Each phase would be a $0.70 increase for a total of $2.10. The final increase is July 4 th, 2009. The most recent Minimum Wage increase was in 1997!

South Carolina's new legislation requiring private employers to verify the employment eligibility of newly hired employees with E-Verify or with a South Carolina-issued driver's license goes into effect today. Governor Sanford's recent Buenos Aires tryst will not change this, contrary to the hopes of some employers.
